A Benefit Society is a community business operated for the specific community it represents. The Whiting Bay Community Benefit Society was registered on the 24th of September 2025 with the Financial Conduct Authority and its first project is to save the building currently known as Cooriedoon. At this time our aim is to return the building to its original use as a hotel / inn however the final configuration is up to the members / community shareholders and you are invited to join as a member and thereby become a shareholder in our enterprise for just £1.00. We are applying for grants initially to carry out full surveys of the building and gather costings to bring it up to habitable standard. At the same time we are seeking grant funding to acquire, renovate and convert the building to our intended use. The initial responses from the grant bodies are favourable. To be successful in our grant applications we need to prove that the community is behind the project and to that end the more members we get the more likelihood of grant success. You do not need to volunteer for anything if you do not wish to but for the future of our village and our heritage building
